You probably know all that and want to get some free SEO ideas that you can implement yourself to bring your website to the front page of Google. Congratulations! You’re on the right track! It takes more time in keyword research using free tools because they don’t give you related keywords. So, you had to key in one by one and see if there’s any search volume to it.

For example, your chosen keyword is “orthodontist johor bahru” with a search volume of 100+. You can actually get more accurate search volume data if you run a Google ads campaign. Free version only gives you a range like 100 – 1K.

You can repeat the process of keying in the keywords and check for group volume. Ideally pick at least 3 keywords for one target page.

Always check the search engine result page for the relevancy. “Orthodontist johor bahru” and “braces price johor bahru” may have different search results. Hence, should not be put on the same target page.

As you write the content for the target page, be sure to sprinkle some keywords around the page title, heading titles and paragraphs. Remember don’t spam. Just write naturally. Google algorithm update is not kind to spammy or even AI generated texts. So be sure to get a real writer for this.

The best length for this is around 155 characters. Same principle applies, any characters exceeding the length will get truncated which means people can’t see it. So, it’s pointless to craft too long for the meta description.

Be sure to include your target keyword as you write. Don’t spam. Make sure the sentence flows right.

4. Off-page SEO for Orthodontics

Off-page SEO basically means backlinks. This can truly rely on the reputation of the doctor. Say if a magazine or interview is featuring your doctor, then be sure that the article they write has a link back to your website. Request for it or even pay for it.

There are a lot of tactics you can use to get backlinks like buying it, hiring bloggers to write about your service, giving sponsored treatment for brand mention in return and more. If your service is good, chances are people will blog about your orthodontic clinic for free. Words of mouth can be powerful to establish brand presence.

Blogging basically creates a resource hub for patients to know more about certain things. This is the user end benefit of it. What’s important is that it must be relevant. We can’t just suddenly write about our fishing trip on the weekend – stick to orthodontics related topics.

There’s also the SEO benefit to writing blogs. Google will crawl and try to understand what your website is all about. Having enough articles related to your services will establish topical authority.

Okay, now you have, say, 5 pieces of blog posts about your orthodontic services or any subtopics related to that. Now, it’s time to create internal links. Internal links are basically a hyperlink to your other pages in your website. The anchor text that you use has been selected carefully. Anchor text is the text that you select to insert links.

As a rule of thumb, only use anchor text with keywords directed to your target page. Don’t use your target keyword as anchor text to other blogs or articles.

Firstly, all your blog posts must have a link to your target page with either your brand name or the keyword “orthodontist johor bahru” as anchor text.

Once this is set, it’s time to interlink between blog posts. Say there’s an article about the benefits of getting braces. The anchor text that you can consider to include can be “benefits” or “benefit of braces” or “braces benefits”.

You can use phrases like “surgeon fixing patient teeth with braces” or whatever that makes sense. Once you upload it, you can set the image title and alt text. You can use the same phrase for these.

When you have a good blog page with nice photos, it becomes a valuable linkable asset or resource. People may even want to link to your images or blogs when they write about it on their own website. So, make it look good.

8. Get Reviews

Reviews are important social proof that customers want to see before making a pick. There are a lot of channels where we can collect reviews that will prove to be beneficial for our orthodontic SEO effort.

One easy way is Google reviews. Do encourage patients to take pics and upload as part of their reviews. Happy customers are more than willing to do this. So good customer service comes into play.

9. Make Your Website Load Faster

Okay, wait up. How does this relate to SEO? Well, it does. One of Google’s algorithms in ranking websites is core web vitals, CWV. This is their set criteria for a website to rank well.

In short, it needs to load fast.

There’s a technical aspect to it such as caching, deferring JS and CSS scripts as well as a not so technical aspect to it. I will touch more on the easy implementations here.

Easy win for this is to resize your images. Don’t upload images with size more than 1 MB to your website. An image of less than 500kb in size is clear enough to be viewed on the website.

Any image heavier than that will consume more resources when the website is loading. This will weigh down the CWV score.

Next tip is convert to next-gen format. We all know about jpeg and png format. There’s also the webp and avif format. There’s online converters that you can use to convert them into these new formats before uploading.

These new formats are generally smaller in size and without loss of quality. This all helps your site load faster.

10. Build Local Citations

Local citation is the mention of your business name, address and phone number. You can typically see this in those listicles sites recommending food like a Japanese restaurant in bangsar.

You see, when these food review sites write about restaurants, they will also mention the name, address and phone number or we call it NAP.

You can build this yourself by enlisting your website on directory sites, get bloggers to write about it or even create it on your own with web 2.0 sites.

Note that if you decide to build your own website with a free website builder for the sake of creating backlinks and citations (not recommended as it’s super time-consuming) you need to let Google know that these sites exist.

Once you’ve built your own links or citation, submit them for Google crawling with indexing software. This will inform Google bot to crawl these sites faster and delivery that sweet SEO boosting effect. Remember to drip feed – configure the software to crawl periodically and not everything in one day. 

Alternately, Google bots will eventually discover these links but it will take super long time. Like months or years. 

Every mention of this is a citation. Overtime, these will build up in boosting your local SEO for your orthodontic clinic.
